Bruce Springsteen is getting the nod as the best currently active concert performer. The Boss has captured the top spot on Rolling Stone's" new list of the "50 Greatest Live Acts Right Now."
He earns praise both for the "nearly superhuman levels of energy" he brings to his shows, as well as for their duration. Bruce and the E Street Band gave their longest performance ever last July in Helsinki, Finland, playing a show that clocked in at four-hours, six-minutes.
Springsteen is also recognized for his spontaneity. While he prepares a set list for every show, he often deviates from the plan to take sign requests from the audience or some other song he feels is right for the moment.
Another veteran star is falling in at number two. "Rolling Stone" says Prince and his latest band 3rd Eye Girl are "fire hot," and he's currently treating crowds to hits spanning his extensive career. The Rolling Stones, who returned to the road late last year to celebrate their 50th anniversary, takes the number three spot. Neil Young rounds out the top five, following Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire at number four.
U2 just misses the top ten to occupy eleventh place, while Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are making the cut at number 13. Paul McCartney and Metallica both earned spots in the top 20.
