It appears that Caribou Coffee is pulling up stakes in Ohio.
Several news organizations, including the Lakewood Patch, are reporting that all Ohio Caribou Coffees are closing, but some will reopen as Peet's Coffee & Tea locations.
According to the Patch, the Caribou Coffee location in Lakewood will become a Peet’s, the location in Avon will close permanently and the location in Westlake has not been determined.
Our requests for comment from Caribou Coffee have not been returned. Ed Coury of the Wall Street Journal also has not talked to Caribou, but he did speak with some workers.
The moves are expected to happen quickly. There are also locations in Tower City, Beachwood, Solon and Rocky River.
In December of 2012, German conglomerate Joh. A. Benckiser Group said it would be buying the publicly traded Minneapolis-based Caribou Coffee Co. for $340 million. Earlier in the year it bought Peet’s Coffee & Tea for $1 billion.
