Body of missing swimmer found in Lake Erie

(Cleveland) - Dive teams have found a missing swimmer in Lake Erie.

The body of 15-year-old Gregory Adams was recovered by the Cleveland Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the chief of Metro Park Rangers and taken to MetroHealth Hospital.

Metroparks spokeswoman Sue Allen says Adams disappeared Tuesday afternoon from Perkins Beach near Edgewater Park. Allen tells WTAM that area is not staffed by lifeguards.

Perkins Beach is located off of Cliff Drive near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway.

At 3:30 p.m., a watchstander at Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor received notification from a Cleveland Police Officer reporting a missing 15-year-old boy.

A rescue boatcrew aboard a 45-Response Boat-Medium launched from Coast Guard Station Clevleand Harbor and a rescue aircrew aboard an MH65-C Dolphin helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit.

Allen says friends reported Adams missing.
