Lanci files for Cleveland mayor

(Cleveland) - Cleveland businessman Ken Lanci filed his petitions to run for mayor of Cleveland Thursday morning.

Lanci brought the petitions, signed by 8,000 Clevelanders to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. He's filing far ahead of the deadline.

Lanci tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 that he collected the required signatures much faster than expected, and feels that may indicate growing momentum for his campaign.

Lanci is taking on incumbent Mayor Frank Jackson in the democratic primary. Lanci says his number one campaign issue will be education. He says he wants to improve the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s poor graduation rate.

Lanci is promising an aggressive campaign, and plans to hold more than 100 meetings each month to address and listen to people in the community.

Lanci previously ran for Cuyahoga County Executive, and finished third in the race won by Ed FitzGerald.
