Celebrating a quarter century in Ohio City

(Cleveland) - In Ohio City, the 25th anniversary celebration for the Great Lakes Brewery is underway across from the West Side Market.

A block party for the whole family started at 11am, and continues until 9 tonight. It’s free and open to the public.

Brewery spokeswoman Marissa DeSantis says there's live local music by a diverse lineup of entertainers, a free photo booth from 4pm to 8pm and free face painting.

She tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, merchandise and fresh food from local vendors and restaurants, and GLBC’s award-winning lagers and ales are also available for purchase.

A special 80s-themed set by Cleveland’s The Spazmatics will cap off a whole day of fun and entertainment for all ages.

Market Avenue and Market Square Park are shut down for the day. Visitors began arriving early.

Many tell WTAM that they remember the area before great lakes arrived in 1988. They say it was a run down neighborhood mostly populated by homeless men, but today, it is vibrant and alive with shops and trendy restaurants. Certainly a good reason for a celebration.
