(Kent) - A Kent State University student has been charged with a felony count of concealed weapon possession after it was determined that it was an accidental discharge from his gun that prompted a campus-wide lockdown Wednesday evening.
KSU police say Quavaugntay L. Taylor, 24, of Cleveland, was arrested Wednesday night at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, where he went for treatment after his gun discharged, and Taylor was shot in the hand.
KSU Chief of Police John Peach says there were two women involved in a domestic dispute outside Bowman Hall. Taylor got involved, began to pull out his handgun, which went off.
Witnesses were able to tell police who Taylor was, and he was tracked to the hospital through the GPS system on his phone. Police had also been contacted by hospital personnel about a man who arrived there seeking treatment for a wound on his hand.
Nobody else was injured.
The university initially advised people across campus to stay put while police searched for the shooter.
According to university records, Taylor is a freshman Criminology and Justice Studies major.
