Lawsuit against Whirlpool dropped

(Clyde)---Lawyers in Ohio have dropped one of two lawsuits against Whirlpool Corporation related to a child cancer cluster in Northern Ohio.

Attorneys on Friday wouldn't say why they dropped the $750-million class action lawsuit.

The News-Messenger in Fremont reports an attorney says the suit could be refiled.

The lawsuit attempte to link Benton Harbor, Michigan-based Whirlpool and others to the cancer cluster that has sickened dozens near the city of Clyde since the mid-1990s.

Whirlpool has a washing machine factory in Clyde.  The company has said it will vigorously defend itself against allegations that it was responsible for the illnesses.

A message seeking comment was left with Whirlpool Friday.

A second suit against Whirlpool filed in May by families of the children is continuing in federal court.
