Lordstown Complex Going Solar

LORDSTOWN (AP) — General Motors is setting up more than 8,500 solar panels at its assembly plant in northeastern Ohio that makes the Chevrolet Cruze.

The automaker says the solar installation at the plant in Lordstown is its largest in the U.S.

The 2.2 megawatt solar project will be able to power about 1.5 percent of the plant. GM says that's enough to reduce the equivalent of 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The project at the assembly complex just outside Youngstown is on schedule to be finished at the end of this year.

GM a year ago finished installing solar panels on the roof of its transmission factory in Toledo.
