Mentor teen charged with threatening high school

(Mentor) – Mentor Police had arrested a teenager and charged him with making firearms threats against a school.

At 11:47pm on Sunday, Lt. Tim Allen says the Mentor Police Department received information regarding a threatening comment posted on Facebook that was directed towards Mentor High School. This posting was made on Thursday and they got a tip from a resident.

The police department began investigating the threat and identified the suspect as a 17-year-old male who is not a student at Mentor High School. On Monday morning, police went to the juvenile’s residence and detained him. Lt. Allen says the teen may have have previously attended Mentor High.

The teen was brought to the Mentor Police Department prior to the start of the school day.

After investigation the matter further and interviewing the male, he was charged with Inducing Panic. Lt Allen says the police received several calls, but there were 30 to 40 calls made to the Mentor School District Monday morning. Some parents even kept their kids home.

Lt. Allen says the teen was taken to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
