Nursing home director busted for stealing pain meds from residents

(Westlake) - An executive at an assisted living facility in Westlake is accused of stealing pain medication from elderly residents.

Officers arrested 41 year old Christina Melaragno  of Gates Mills Tuesday at the Gardens of Westlake at 27569 Detroit Road.  Melaragno is the Executive Administrator of the assisted living facility and the former Director of Nursing.

Police executed a search warrant for the offices and charged Melaragno with burglary for entering residents’ rooms on several occasions and stealing pain medication.

Representatives from the West Shore Enforcement Bureau, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Ohio Nursing Board were on site to assist.  The examination into the scope of Melaragno’s criminal activity continues, but investigators believe she used her position to take advantage of elderly residents.

Melaragno is also suspected of persuading residents to give her money for personal use.  Melaragno was awarded the Outstanding Director/Administrator for 2011 by The Ohio Assisted Living Association.

Melaragno was also named West Shore Sun person of the week in 2010 and was featured in the Plain Dealer’s “Fashion Flash” feature in January of 2014.
