Seven suburbs recommended for Municipal Grants

(Cleveland) - Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald has recommended seven 2014 Municipal Grant awards for County Council’s consideration. The grant awards continue the county’s commitment to help strengthen cities through regional collaboration, economic development and shared services.

Over the past two years, the county’s Department of Development has transformed the Municipal Grant Program to be competitive, strategic, and executed in concert with awardees. The county’s annual program solicits applications from eligible communities to use for public infrastructure improvements, road construction and accessibility improvements.

The program is competitive; 19 communities applied for 2014 funding. A wider range of communities received 2014 awards than in decades past, including two new awardee communities that had never previously won a Municipal Grant Program award. The 2014 awarded projects include senior and community center renovations, safety improvements, and road reconstruction. Please see attached a full list of recommended 2014 Municipal Grant Program Awards.

The 2014 Municipal Grant Program application process began on June 10, 2013 and closed on August 10, 2013. Each community’s application was then reviewed by a 5-member panel which consisted of representatives from the county, the County Planning Commission, and a first-ring suburb.
