VIDEO: Castro admitted to calling victim's parents

(Cleveland) - Kidnapper Ariel Castro admitted to FBI interrogators that he abducted and raped three young women he held captive for a decade.

FBI videotapes of questioning after Castro was arrested last May show him telling agents how close he came to being caught years ago.

NBC News obtained the tapes just days after Castro hanged himself in his prison cell earlier this week.

Castro told agents that Amanda Berry was able to call out to neighbors for help in May because he let his guard down.

He told agents he used Michelle Knight's cell phone to call her mother a few days after he abducted the then-20-year-old woman in 2002. The 53-year-old former school bus driver was sentenced last month to life plus a thousand years for kidnapping and raping Knight, Berry, and Gina DeJesus.

In the FBI interrogation tapes, Castro also describes how he used Amanda Berry's cell phone to call her mother and told her Amanda was okay that she was “his wife now”.
